Team Competitions

Calisthenics is a dynamic team sport that combines elements of dance, gymnastics, and performance, and teamwork is at the heart of it all. At Riverton Calisthenics Club, our members not only train together but also perform as a team in a number of competitions throughout the year. These competitions are a great way to showcase the skills and routines developed in class and build team spirit and confidence.

In Western Australia, clubs participate in two major inter-club competitions each year:

  • Betty Fitzpatrick Competition (July/August): This is the first major event of the year, where teams from various clubs come together to compete across different age groups and skill levels. It’s a fantastic opportunity for our teams to test their routines in front of judges and an audience while bonding as a group.

  • CAWA State Championships (September/October): The highlight of the calisthenics year, the State Championships, is where teams compete for state titles. It’s a highly anticipated event that brings together the best talent from clubs across the state.

Competitions are held at the headquarters of Calisthenics WA Swan Park Theatre.

What to Expect at Competitions

  • Teamwork and Sportsmanship: Competitions are not just about winning—they’re about working together as a team and showing support for one another. Our coaches and older members place great importance on sportsmanship, cheering on fellow teammates and even competitors.

  • Performance Categories: Teams perform routines in various categories, including aesthetics, technical skills, and showmanship. The routines are choreographed by our coaches and designed to highlight the strengths of each team member.

  • Preparation: In the lead-up to competitions, teams spend extra time polishing their routines, and additional training sessions may be scheduled. It’s a rewarding process that helps members grow both individually and as part of a team.

  • For New Members: Competitions may sound a little daunting at first, but don’t worry—everyone starts somewhere! Coaches and fellow team members will guide you through the process, making sure you’re comfortable and ready to perform.

Participating in these competitions helps build resilience, confidence, and camaraderie, and we’re proud of the achievements of all our teams. If you have any questions or want more details about competitions, feel free to reach out to us or speak with your coach.
