We are pleased to acknowledge our Club History
“Our club was founded in 1969 by Mrs Edna Smith, and her daughter Mrs Linley Campbell. They are the foundation members of the Riverton Calisthenics Club of Western Australia”
In the Beginning:
Mrs Edna Smith and her daughter, Mrs Linley Campbell, founded Riverton Calisthenics Club in 1969. This dynamic mother-daughter duo brought their unique talents together to create something special. Linley leading 'in-class' teaching and her mum taking care of the non-teaching side of things. Together, they built a club that perfectly combined family values with a love for calisthenics. Affectionately known as "Rivo Cali," the club has been a cornerstone of the southern Perth community ever since.
The club's very first enrolment day was a resounding succes, with 120 girls coming together at the Church of England on Tribute Street in Riverton. The launch was a wonderful success with so many new members turning up that Linley’s eldest brother jumped in to help record the names of all the new members. It was a true family effort and marked the beginning of a warm, community-focused club that has grown and thrived ever since.
The club's identity is symbolised by its distinctive badge, fondly referred to as "The Big R," designed by Mr Smith. This emblem remains a proud representation of Rivo Cali's rich heritage and enduring success.
Looking Ahead
Over the years, Rivo Cali has evolved into one of Western Australia's premier 'A' Grade calisthenics clubs, offering a diverse range of classes for all age groups, from pre-schoolers to seniors.
As we celebrate over 55 years of inspiring performances and incredible teamwork, Riverton Calisthenics Club remains dedicated to promoting the art and sport of calisthenics. Our focus is on building confidence, discipline, coordination, and a strong sense of team spirit in every member.
Rivo Cali isn’t just a club—it’s a community. We’re proud of our history, and we can’t wait to welcome new members to be part of our journey.
